    ATX - stiff zoom?

How many people expect to zoom a scope with one finger? Just curious because I've always used thumb and forefinger.

NL Pure 8x32 and NL Pure 10x32!

I've used the 8.5 SV for eleven years and the 8x32 SV for nine years. The 8.5 is better, but it's eight ounces heavier and yes it makes a difference. As a backpacker, well we weigh things gram by gram. I don't think either the 42mm or the 32mm is worth packing. Maybe the 30mm CL, very nice...

NL Pure 8x32 and NL Pure 10x32!

Sorry Jan. Chunky Monkey is just something I made up. We have three cats, and they all have multiple names. Silly Sally, Mr. McFluff Fluff (he claims he's Persian), Cowboy Doug, Big Jerk, etc. Svelte is something I have little experience with but I know the word. I look forward to your...

Oh, Lee. Zeiss to the end I guess.

NL Pure 8x32 and NL Pure 10x32!

Thanks for the photo Jan. Yikes, it is kind of a chunky monkey isn't it? I have a cat I call Chunky Monkey. Solid as can be , but svelte he is not.

NL Pure 8x32 and NL Pure 10x32!

Oh, I won't be able to pass on that burnt orange, but why not more of a brown? I think I might be the only person I know whose favorite color is brown. Lol. I've got four Swaros, all green, my second favorite color. Sorry Zeiss, not a fan of black. I go to NYC rather often, and jeez everybody...

    Scope histories

Rather short history on my end. #1 Eagle Optics Raven 78mm 20-60x. Maybe 1990? A nice scope, but limited ER. I gave it away. I think this might have been a Kowa with minimal changes. Offset prism as I remember. #2 Celestron Regal 80mm 20-60x, original and heavy aluminum version. Absolutely great...

    Pocket CL Update

Thanks John. I clearly missed that thread! I should have known you'd be on top of these changes!👍

    Pocket CL Update

I just noticed that Swarovski has updated (their word) the Pocket CL. They softened the look by rounding off the hinges (which may be more comfortable since the former design could dig into your fingers just a bit), rounding off the exposed metal, reducing the number of splines on the focus...

I Like the Field Pro System

Just checked, they're called cord locks, not keepers (i made that up). Should be an easy fix.

I Like the Field Pro System

If you cut the cord, just hold a lighter to the free end briefly. It will melt the nylon and prevent fraying. I shortened two of my SV straps this way, but I could also reattach the keeper. The newer FP keeper, so far as I know, cannot be reattached. To me, the keeper is just for extra security...

Good grief, can someone tell me the secret to getting the little NLPure FP strap attachment back on?

Interesting. I just tried both sides on my 8x32 FP. Off and on three times. Just pinch the piin between thumb and forefinger. First time off was pretty tight. After that no problem. It appears to be spring loaded so push, then twist, but as the instructions point, once turning there's no need to...

Good grief, can someone tell me the secret to getting the little NLPure FP strap attachment back on?

On my first attempt working the FP attachment I could't get it to work. So I looked at the manual and the instructions couldn't be any simpler, some words and pictures. The key is to snap the pin through the button first, then attach the strap to the binocular. If you put the button on the bino...

    Is IS for the birds?

Amen, Sancho. This thread has piqued my curiosity about IS, something I never really considered before. However, a 44oz Fujinon is probably out of the question! Thanks for all the thoughts however. Very interesting read. Mark

Carrying Straps and Other Accessories - a Rant

That makes sense! I left about two inches extra on my SV straps for that purpose, and suddenly the Swaro straps make perfect sense. Nothing out there can be adjusted as quickly. Just a thought.

Carrying Straps and Other Accessories - a Rant

Yes, John, those are the ones I meant. I think they were called "Functional Bags" and they are that. They are very lightweight, fold flat, don't need their own strap, and provide, in my opinion, plenty of protection. The field pro strap is OK. Just remember to push the button through the strap...

Carrying Straps and Other Accessories - a Rant

Totally agree! Mine have been through about a hundred airports. I forget what they called them but they should bring them back. Not fancy, just effective.

my video review of NL PURE 8x42

Regarding the strap, the instructions are clear, but as is often the case I didn't read them. The button goes through the strap first, then the strap goes on. It won't work if you put the strap on first and then try to push the button through. Simple and secure really. Just read the...

What Really Constitutes a Alpha Grade Pair Of Binoculars ?

Agreed. My eyes are mostly the weak point now so that's why I don't comment much. Enjoy it while it lasts. Mark

ED50 fixed power eyepieces in the US?

I ordered the 27x MC from Japan and it's been on my ED50 for years. I have the 13-30x that came with the scope of course. It works OK, but I never use it. Narrow fov and touchy eye relief. It's true the 27x MC is a bit of a honker compared to the little zoom, but I think it's worth it...

    The Inspiration for NL's Shape

Interesting. I've been using the FP and pre-FP 8x32 for a month or so and I really don't care one way or the other. Different yes, significant no. It came with adapters anyway. I've always thought the thick neoprene straps were a bit much for the svelt 32mm, but I never bothered, after eight...

    The Inspiration for NL's Shape

It's all cool, Lee. I was thinking of Paris because a skinny little Slovenian won the Tour on Sunday! Unprecedented! Pretty good sprint for the stage, too. All my best, Mark

    The Inspiration for NL's Shape

I know you're being funny with an agenda, but monstrous carbuncles and toxic growths are silly. I have both pre FP and FP and it doesn't make two dry beans of a difference. Your hands won't be there. BTW, when I was young and dumb and . . . ahem, I lived on baguettes in Paris for a time...
