Ultravid 10x25 question for people who have them

I've had a pair of the Ultravid 10x25's for about 18 months now. I haven't used them since summer and yesterday when I picked them up I noticed that they make noise when I shake them like something's loose inside. The view is as perfect as the day I got them, but I don't ever remember hearing...

    Zen-Ed 10X Review

Thank you for that review. I'm in line for a pair of 10x Zen ED's later this year. Your review only fortified my decision. Seems like the Zen 7x's are in your future.......

Zen Ray and Generation II ED's?

Please explain 'slow focus' in more detail. I'm guessing you mean inside of 30ft? Are they 'slow' from 30ft out to infinity? Stiff focusing in cold seems a common issue with any bino using grease as a lubricant; so I don't know if that is unique to ZR. Revised issues: - Poor fitting objective...

Zen Ray and Generation II ED's?

Frank, I haven't actually inquired with ZR about this. I just wanted to know if anyone on the forum had inside information on ZR's position regarding the 'shortcomings' of their ED's. I was going to break the bank later this year and go for a Leica Ultravid 10x, but now I'm almost certain the...

    Cardinals and their feeding habits

I have several pairs of Cardinals at the feeder very early and late too. They are always there well after sunset when it's difficult to see them without binoculars. During the day a pack of four Blue Jays rule the area. They are the bullies of the yard; Although sometimes the Red-Bellied...

Zen Ray and Generation II ED's?

Any word on whether Zen Ray is going to ratchet-up their beta ED binoculars?(by fixing what people have felt are its' shortcomings) I believe complaints have been the following: - Loose eyecups. - Exposed grease in focusing mechanism. - Too flashy "ZenRay" written on focus wheel - Long strap. -...

Ultravid & ED Glass; Help me understand.

Can someone tell me if Leica uses ED glass in the Ultravid line of binoculars? Is Leicas' HighLux their proprietary ED glass or has Leica not employed ED glass yet? Thanks, Buz

    Compact bins

You could start a small war with that statement. An 8x32 is a mid-size glass, not compact.

    10x Bino's for $320?

OK, Hoosierguy found an incredible deal! Seems a little dubious that that company only offers a few models. I wonder what Pentax is up to with these deep discounts? ED glass coming in the lower end models soon? Frank, I never considered Bushnell in the $300 binocular range, until now. Seems...

    10x Bino's for $320?

Are you sure you are talking about the DCF SP's? Something doesn't sound right there unless you are talking about used binoculars. Eagle has a sale on them right now for $599. For $320 new, the best roof prism Pentax you'll find are the 10x42 DCF WP II.

    Compact bins

Congratulations Mike! Have you tried the 'thumbs-up' holding technique? Works great by stabilizing the view and blocking side light. It's my preferred method with the Ultravid 10x25's.

    Suggestions on Binoculars

If you're serious enough about birding to be on this forum, then you owe it to yourself to have a good pair of compacts. Compacts do not deliver like full size when it comes to light transmission near the fringes of sunrise and sunset. Unfortunately, with compacts, to get even close to...

need opinion on a few models, including Cabela's

For $300(USD), why not check out the Pentax DCF WP & the Nikon Monarch lines? Unless it's a border issue thing?

    DCF ED vs. Alpha's?

Good Stuff! Not the positive review I was hoping for, but good honest stuff nonetheless. Hopefully more people will chime in with DCF ED observations.

    ultimate binos?

Sounds expensive, but why not offer them as an option for the most extreme hardcore birders? $3,000 bino's?

Florida Holiday 19th July - 9th Aug Info Wanted

I live in western Martin County near Lake Okeechobee. Wide open county with very few people. Most of my birding is done in the wild whether in my truck or on the ATV or on and around my property. As far as what you'll see in July and August, I honestly don't know, but there is so much...

    DCF ED vs. Alpha's?

Thanks Bob. It's my own feeling that some of the Pentax line of binoculars are the most underrated bino's in the world. Just seems like people only consider Nikon against the alpha's?

    Woodpeckers are emptying my feeder..!!

Have you tried changing your food to something woodpeckers don't like as much?

    Which bins?

I feel the same way. However, I'm going to try the Pentax DCF ED's before I go spending Alpha money. Seems nobody has published a formal review on the Pentax DCF ED vs. Alpha's yet which is really troubling me. Why??? Why isn't anyone coming forward and admitting that Pentax ED gives the...

Florida Holiday 19th July - 9th Aug Info Wanted

I live 2 hours south of Lake Apopka. I travel past there when I go to Mount Dora just north of the lake. Next time I'll have to check that area east of the lake as you mentioned. Thank you, Buz

Florida Holiday 19th July - 9th Aug Info Wanted

Wow, that's quite an impressive listing. I don't think I've seen that many and I live here! I would like to know your technique so that I can finally see that Bald Eagle I've been looking for. Don't forget to bring your sun-screen and bug repellent. Cheers.B (:

    Red-cockaded Woodpecker

Great photo! Spotted one in my backyard last weekend! It caught my attention because I heard a much higher pitched and faster frequency 'pecking' than the standard Red Bellied ones we have here. Grabbed my binoculars and sure enough it was a Red-Cockaded Woodpecker! I felt honored to see...

    Question about Ultravid 10 x 25

My full size Pentax 10 x 42's focus a decent enough distance past infinity to allow me to go past an object and dial back to get it in just the right focus no matter how far away. The Ultravid's don't really allow me to focus PAST something more than 100 yards, so I'm always hitting the stop...

    Question about Ultravid 10 x 25

Well I'm not too happy to hear that. I'm afraid that just may be the way Leica has these bins set up?
