    Some passerines, Malta :)

I would really appreciate you guys confirming/identifying the following migrants. I was really surprised to have found these birds at the side of a road in one of Malta's most built up areas (Sliema for those of you who know where it is). Im 90% sure these are all wood warblers: another...

    Help!

Yesterday I was ising internet explorer while I had my antivirus out of date, in fact I was gonna renew it that night. A program called 'Security Tool' installed itself on its own and it's VERY ANNOYING. I think it's not a real security software but a virus. Every 30 secs a popup shows up from...

    2 more embarassing photos, Malta

I would be grateful if you give your opinions about these birds. The firts photo shows two mallard hybrids right? In the second photo the broad square tail is confusing me, it doesnt match anything in collins. Perhaps whatever it is is moulting? Crap pics I know, but you guys are awesome and...

    Possible goldfinch, Malta

Photo taken today. The habitat is rather marshy. Not sue what it is, but as soon as I look at it I think: Goldfinch! Your thoughts are appreciated, I would like to see the number of views and the number of replies to be the same. Thanks a lot.

    hooded crows and ?, cyprus

I think these are hooded crows which are mobbing a raptor, possibly a bonelli's eagle? It's just when I took the photo I thaught they were all hoodies, but looking at it now the bird in the middle looks larger. Heres the whole photo and a crop of the bird in question.

    Yellow wag call, malta

I think I just saw 2 yellow wagtails flying over my backyard, which would make sense as it is migration time. Can anyone confirm that the yellow wagtail flight call is a short, 2 note high pitched call rather (kind of like a continuous tseeptseep - tseeptseep - tseeptseep) similar to the flight...

    Which do you prefer?

I've recently managed to get the 2nd edition of the collins guide. But I have to say that I prefer the lars jonsson guide (the one with the eagle owl on the cover). The illustration are much larger in the jonsson guide, but the collins has more species and detailed descriptions. What do you guys...

    Still nest building?

Yesterday, I went for a quite stroll along the coast opposite the Simar nature reserve. It was quite late, about 9 in the evening. I saw a silhouette of a bird, roughly pigeon sized with trailing legs, entering the reserve. I assumed it was a little bittern. The bird had something in it's beak...

    ????????, Malta

I took this photo thinking I was taking a bad photo on purpose for my quiz. I didn't have my bins on me and just assumed it's a female spansh sparrow, from abou2 20 metres away. It's summer right now so no migrants should be here. On close inspection of the photo I found that the bird looks like...

    Birds of Malta Quiz II

I felt like starting another quiz just because eveyone else seems to be doing it ;). But this thime I'm gonna use my own photos which makes it MUCH HARDER, since I'm a rubbish bird photographer. I'm also not gonna be ranking you guys. This is not a competition to be won, this is a game to have...

    Pallid/Hen Harrier Malta

No pics, sorry. Was seen flying over a mainroad at about 8 this morning. Had a strong, straight flight with slow wingbeats. Wingspan about 1m. Mostly plain grey underparts (which excluded montys) and I was in a driving van so I couldn't see the shape of the black. Hen harriers a very scarce...

    Birds already breeding?

I have come back from a walk around my village and I spent half an hour observing a male and a female sardinian warbler feeding their offspring, which was already fledged. Isn't it a little bit early for birds to be nesting and breeding?

    Egg ID, malta

First of all: The eggs were already broken when I found them. I had found them next to an orange tree in my grandma's backyard a few years ago. The thing is that I think they are too small for bird's eggs and too big for lizard/gecko eggs. BTW there was no nest in the tree. If they are bird's...

    Another unknown, Malta

My backgarden once again. This time I got good views of the bird but I still don't kbow what it is. My first impression was northern wheatear but then I remembered that I live in the heart of the most populated town in Malta. It was brownish with a black tail which was constantly bobbing up and...
