    E Norfolk - 3 to ID please

These pics were taken a few days ago at Winterton. I'm struggling to ID from books, but I think the first is ruff and the second wheatear. The third was taken from a long way off - hand holding my brand new camera (somewhat shakily). The bird first caught my eye when it was flying between the...

    Red Breasted Goose

I spotted this Red Breasted Goose on the River Yare, near Norwich, last Sunday. It was with a group of Greylags. I believe it's not very common in England but is it rare enough to have notified anyone - and if so, who?

    Another Plover(?) ID

Please ID these birds for me. 6 of them were flying around in unison over the river Yare near Brundall in Norfolk - last Friday evening. They settled on the opposite bank but as it was getting dark this is the best picture that I could manage. I've looked in my Collins and I think they are a...

    What did I see?

Yesterday while out driving down an Essex country lane I spotted what I thought was a sparrow in the road. I kept an eye on it, so that I didn't run it over, and then spotted that it had a dark blue patch on its wings. I've looked in my Collins and on the web, but I can't find anything that...

    Help please!

I've just noticed a poorly young starling in my garden. It seems to have part of its innards hanging out. There appears to be no other sign of injury. Several youngsters have been feeding and bathing happily this morning but this poor thing has been sitting quietly by itself. The parents are...

    Birds eyelids

I took some pics of my garden birds today and for the first time I noticed that birds have eyelids. The woodpigeon dozed off while perched on a feeder and stayed in that position for about 20 minutes. I've seen birds snoozing in the past but I've never seen them with their eyes shut.

    Mystery of disappearing seed feeder

A friend recently gave me a red mesh seed feeder (full of seeds) to hang in my garden. Last night I got a few steps into the garden with it, just as my phone started to ring. I lay the feeder down on a dwarf wall and came back inside to answer the phone, then forgot about it until this...

    Please ID

Please ID these birds. I took the pics this afternoon just before a thunderstorm - the wind was quite strong and it wasn't easy hand-holding my camera to my binoculars. These pics are my first ever - I've got some gear now - but no knowledge! |=)| Liz

    Bird Rescue in Norfolk

I'm lucky to own a boat on the southern Norfolk Broads, so I spend most weekends in that area. I sometimes see the results of unthinking anglers - swans caught up with fishing line, hooks etc. I have got the phone number of a voluntary swan rescue service but I wonder if any one knows of a...

Bird Song - Clips not working?

It's that time of the evening when the bird's are competing to make the loudest noise - and I'm trying to identify the culprits. (Not that I'm complaining - I think the sounds are wonderful). I've gone to the BF Bird Song forum and found the list of birds - but when I click on a name, I get a...

    Nesting blackbirds

I have blackbirds nesting in my very overgrown shrubs. I know that I musn't disturb them but my husband is anxious to tidy the garden. What is a safe period to wait? I believe that blackbirds can have several broods. Are we talking weeks or months?

    Yet another duck

New to birding, new to BF, I thought I'd start with birds that I could get close to. I came across this duck on the Norfolk Broads but couldn't identify it. Help please.

    Hello

Hello all. Just a note to introduce myself. I live on the Essex (England) coast and for the last 2 months have been confined to house following knee injury (skiing). That gave me plenty of hours looking out of window - watching different birds arrive in garden. Also plenty of time to surf the...
