So many species in such a short time... :) Grats!

Record shot Nice birds. This weekend the p900 has proved its capabilities again. A took a short trip to a nearby marsh and saw through my binoculars a small grebe on the water. It was just a black dot, but as some people had seen a black-necked grebe there I took a few shots (there are usually...

No, I did expect something like this :) I just reported on what I found although the word "abysmal" may have made the impression of my being disappointed. Nothing like that. Despite the poor quality I could identify several small birds from quite far (my binoculars had only showed some brownish...

A few shots At last I had a chance to do some shooting. When the weather is hot and the subjects are far the keeper rate seems to be abysmally low (I will have to try with a mono- or tripod, but atmospheric vibrations seem to be one problem, and the P900 may have problems focusing on far away...

Nice pics, especially the first one (at least birdwise, because the last two are also nice). You live in a beautiful place. I had to check where Nelspruit was and that was when I started to drool... so close to Kruger and a lot of other reserves. Must be a fantastic place for people who love...

Bird ID Just a quick thought: yesterday the P900 has proved that it is capable of what my main reason for purchasing it was. We had heavily overcast skies and I saw a raptor quite far away. With these light conditions all I could see through my bino was that it was probably a harrier. So I shot...

One more This blackbird was about 15 m away. I did some PS magic to show the details :) Sorry for the harsh noon lights, I had no sunset at hand 8-P

UV filter Pigeon was close, maybe 6-7 m. I made a few pics of a rooftop that may be about 60-70 metres away. I tried to crop the same part and applied only a single sharpening step with the same settings to all of them. The first two were made WITH the filter the second two WITHOUT it. If...

UV filter Got the UV filter today and tested it a bit. I see no difference between the images made with or without it. No AF problems either, from macro to infinity. So I'm happy with it. (It's a Hoya Fusion Antistatic filter.) See attached pics. The pigeon was shot at 350 mm, the cherry...

Yes, no doubt about the superiority of a good DSLR + telephoto lens combo. But if you are on a budget that option may not be valid. I did not have much money but wanted a DSLR so I bought a used Olympus DSLR with a 70-300 telezoom and a 1.4 TC (This gave me a reach equivalent to 840 mm in 35 mm...

Thank you. I have these settings set (this was the first thing I did after receiving the P900), too, but I am not sure what settings the Bird Watching scene mode uses (these pics were taken with that). But my photos above were also taken in BW mode so I am not sure. Maybe the feathers' structure...

Common wood pigeon No filter yet, just two photos. I assume the second one would be better if the P900 was capable of RAW. Still, its fun shooting bird portraits from afar ;)

Thank you all! I think I'll try a higher quality filter and see what happens. Somehow it feels bad to leave such a big front lens "naked."

UV filter Do you use an UV filter to protect the lens? If you do, what kind? (I mean, which company has manufactured it.) I've attached the very first acceptable images I made with the P900. Nothing very interesting from a birding point of view but they are pretty nice for a sensor of this...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

Well, something else. I am very pleasantly surprised by the image quality. I still have some test shots only but if the subject is not too far away (like within 20 metres) then I am inclined to say that the images are in many respects -- sharpness, details, colours -- at least as good as the...

Do you have any experience with 3rd party external battery chargers? Maybe any recommendations? I am a bit afraid to get one of the cheap ones from ebay... But Nikon's own charger is pretty expensive. I would not buy one with only two connector pins, but what about the ones with three pins? (I...

Thank you guys for the suggestions. As I said I just wanted to use wifi in cases when there were only a few pics to download but the workaround mentioned by GrahameNZ seems to be just too much of a hassle but I am grateful for it anyway. I am using an USB 3.0 card reader which is awesome...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

I have checked the web and it seems there is no easy and/or cheap way to do this. Well, not a big deal, I just thought it could help in those cases where I wanted to copy a few pictures only.
