    Chia Salvias

Yes, atleast here in Az. they do. The hummers LOVE the flowers. These plants are very hardy, love full sun, heat and drier conditions.

    Rufous Hummingbird in CT

I contacted several of my birding friends located in your area. They all are unaware and have never heard of nesting Rufous in your/their area. Their birding club would like very much to see and document this. Would you be willing to have them come out to your property?

New Mexico - Three In Hand

Well it seems that someone has not been truthful with you. I was determined to find those photos from years I ago that I had mentioned... and find them I did. This photo was taken in 2006 in Louisiana and they are rubythroats. Go to Snopes.com, put in the search: woman handfeeding hummingbirds...

Honey bees are taking over my hummingbird feeders Help!

When it gets real bad, I use Off yard fogger bug repellant. I take the hummer feeders that are hanging from my front and back decks down, spray the fogger, and rehang the feeders. Bees will stay away for several hours. I also have a hanging glass wasp catcher that I put coke in but I find that...

New Mexico - Three In Hand

The male is a ruby throat. I believe this is not a current photo. It is atleast 5-6+ years old. Also, if I remember correctly, it was taken somewhere in the southeast like Alabama, Georgia, etc. There were several photos on the internet of a woman hand feeding hummingbirds -hoax or not- and I...

    My hummer "demanded" food

Funny, aren't they? Sometimes they fly so close it looks as tho they'll get their bills caught in the screen.

    Plain-Capped Star Throat

I believe it is possible. I am in central Az, 90 mins south of Flag.,1 hr north of Phx. Not too far from us is a fish hatchery and for years now its been visited by magnificents and star throats at their feeders. I have not seen the star throats but have seen the magnificents. Other birders...

    Rufous Hummingbird in CT

They are currently breeding/nesting in New Mexico? All info I have read says their breeding grounds are the northwest and up into Alaska. Do you have pictures of their nests by any chance? I have about 40 male and female rufous right now. They will hang for 2-3 weeks and then start heading back...

    Rufous Hummingbird in CT

Yes, although rare, they have been known to visit the east coast. My sister in law had one for about a week in August in NJ a few years back. I remember one about 10 yrs or so ago that visited a South Jersey home and stayed the whole winter. The people called birding groups to confirm that it...

    Hummer sundown antics

The hummer flying above the pool at sunrise or sunset is most likely eating the bugs. The hummer that chases is possibly territorial and trying to also get to the bugs.

Good eye - it looks like the same nest type. Way to go!

    Hummer nest?

I know mockingbirds are notorious for nesting low in 3-5 foot range but too me this nest looks a bit small for them. Sparrows also do the same but are quite smaller. I'm going with a sparrows nest. Does this nest look like its been used? If not, maybe it was a 'fake' nest for predators. Either...

    Unusual hummingbird nest, Nevada

In the La Cebadilla area of Tucson, about 6 years ago we encountered a very similar nest. We observed a hummingbird nest built on the emergency red garage door pull rope in our friends detatched garage. It also had 2 dead hummers sticking out of it. They explained that the nest had been there...

    Central Az snow - Hummingbirds

A rare April snow storm today 4/9 deposited a few inches. Our hummers faired well tho, I warmed their food so it was like having warm soup. :) Left to right is a female Roufus, a male Anna and a male Black chinned.

    Does this actually work?

I am sure some people would spend their money on this. I think its silly tho.

    Hummisicle Hummingbird Feeder 14 oz.

Years ago, I had a Hummzinger Excel. I used it for one year then got rid of it. Where ever I hung it, it would never hang straight. Even put new threading in the middle and attached small weights underneath, no luck. Wether it was from my decks, from a tree or a shepherds hook, it was always...
