50-60mm scope for hiking and digiscoping

Any of those code should work fine . Consider Pentax 65mm HD scope. It has removable eyepieces and can except any astronomical telescope eyepiece. This might give you some flexibility with adapter strategies. Regarding adapters, I've had great luck using the ones that fit on your iPhone (eg Kowa...

Great photos, Rob. I wish i had the skills to craft such an adapter. I've obtained a spare eyepiece covers and case and will try to cobble these together to see if it works. Question: what distance between EP and iPhone seems optimal? Toucan Sam was captured with iPhone handheld to scope...

    New Vortex Razor?

I'm an EO fan as well (same company as Vortex, Atlas) - fine products and excellent service. It will be interesting to see how these work out. I like that these are tripod (or monopod) adaptable.

Thank you for the kind encouragement. Looking forward to venturing beyond the backyard, though it's nice to work out the methods from the comfort of home. Just wish that pesky "work" thing wasn't getting in the way.

Thank you for your kind comments. I grew up about 25 miles South of here and never saw a black squirrel. However, there are many here.

Achieving sharp focus with P5100 Coolpix?

Am facing the same challenge. I believe Neil has previously recommended setting AF to macro mode and staying in zoom ranges where it is functional (I.e., the macro symbol glows green on the LCD. Will definitely give this a try.

    Astroscope + DSLR = Gallery!

First (quasi-) share-able afocal image This is nothing like the beauties produced by the experts here, but at least a little of that "single feather resolution" we all love to see. I like the solidity of the adapter system. Now, just need to figure out how to focus and expose. Thanks again...

    Advice on buying a camera!

Hi All, New question (hopefully appropriate for this forum): Does anyone know offhand what DSLRs or mirrorless interchangable lens digicams have a flip-up LCD monitor that would enable live view at 90 degrees from back of camera? I'm aware of: - Lumix DMC-G1/2 - some Olympus DSLRs Would...

    Which scope to choose?

Hi All, What a great forum! I'm thinking of jumping in with a Stellarview Raptor (carbon fiber tube/ED doublet) 70 or 80 mm refractor for shooting prime (and maybe a little digiscoping). Am considering a Lumix DMC-G2 mirrorless interchangeable camera body for its light weight and rotatable LCD...
