    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

Hi Sandpiper I used the P5100 with a Zeiss 85 and zoom and a swing aside bracket and I got on really well with it. Swapped to the STX and not really hit any form. I wonder if it is down to the over engineered DCB11 bracket. Hoping the V1 will just give me a few advantages. I realise I am late...

    Digiscoping with the Nikon V1

Just to say thanks for the info on the various setups. I have decided to buy a V1 and a 10-30 lens. Will be using it with the Swarovski 85 STX and DCB 11 I have owned several setups and for ages I have owned the P5100 and thought it time I upgraded. Quite excited to see the steps forward...

    Goa 2014/15

I wonder if this would be accessible from the Arpora wood area? I looked at this place on a map before my last trip but never got around to trying to find it. Looks also like an interesting more open area further in. I am with two other this trip so I hope I get the chance as it can be...

    Manfrotto Carbon one 441

Hi Yves Sorry a bit late but this info I hope will help. It is for the 443 but the tripod is identical apart from a few differences like the head being able turn round for photographic purpose. I still own it and I love it. Just skim down the page to the tripod section...

Chris Packham Questioned by Maltese Police

I would imagine that this could galvanise Chris' resolve in the Malta issue. Let's hope he was not charged with anything.

    Sri Lanka

Dave A real lovely and very informative trip report as standard. A nice spot after Goa with new and familiar to boot. The ability to see more mammals is a huge bonus. Thanks for taking the time to do the reports as I know it takes time and of coarse it's a labour of love. Tah.

25-50x: Improving the eyecup for eyeglasses wearers

Swissboy Bit late on this topic but thank you for taking the time to post this. I have a high prescription +4.75 and this caused me to find that zoom was a no go on comfort viewing. I was pleased to note that the new ATX has a special eyecup with a 4mm reduction in height over the standard...

    Visa fees

Spot on as the cost for non EU members for a visa to UK....£80. Once you get over the initial shock of the doubling of the visa cost then maybe we just had it to easy to start with rather than it being to expensive now. I say that having luckily already received my Visa for India this year...

    Lesvos in June

Well those sound right up my street...not at all envious. Will be interesting if you do try out Lesvos in June how you find things as I am not sure there will be a great deal of visitors then so your report/findings will fill in a few gaps no doubt. Assam, I tell ya'

    Lesvos in June

Hi Alf No Goa this season then? I have visited Lesvos but like most that was in May, but I have to say I would not be averse to try in June simply for the wildflowers and as above pointed out the Butterflies. Really nice island and cracking food. Hopefully you get the choice of place to stay...

Here are the new modular Swarovski scopes

Thanks for the input Neil May I ask how you feel about the 30x starter mag? Do you feel that the bird can be over full in the frame at all. I fancy the 95 but I remember having a 30x ww on a zeiss scope and I found I was walking backwards to get thr bird in the frame....

Here are the new modular Swarovski scopes

Had another go with the 85 and 95 at Martin Mere the other day. I took along the eyecup Swarovski kindly supplies for those who wear glasses. I am a +4.75 prescription so I thought it would be a good thing to try out considering the thickness of my glasses. I reckon at least 3-4mm has been cut...

Here are the new modular Swarovski scopes

Hi Dale Thanks for the extra info. I particularly appreciate your info regarding getting closer to the eyepiece as my prescription is on the high + side and even with aspheric lenses I still find my eyes are to far away from the actual glass of the optic I am using so I hope this helps a little...

Here are the new modular Swarovski scopes

Has anybody used the special eyepiece for spectacle wearers with the ATX scopes yet? I have the special eyepiece but have not had chance to test out the difference as yet. On paper what would this new eyepiece hope to achieve? Thanks

    Zeiss Customer Service

Good news I think Brock has it when mentioning that Gary was the strong link rather than Zeiss. I had cause to use Gary when he worked for Leica and he was very helpful. Shrewd move on Zeiss' part. Glad you are up and running.

Cape May & New York June 2012.

Hi Richard Thanks for the feedback. I had a peruse around your new blog and I also enjoyed your take on Cape May. Whilst we had similar experience of Ticks we were lucky enough to not see anything like the midge troubles. Bald Eagle pictures are ace. Thanks again. May see you there in Autumn....

    Canon S95

Just thought I would let others know that Amazon are now doing this camera for £199. I have just purchased a second hand P5100 so sadly I can't risk it! Still seems like a good camera for digiscoping and looking back through posts the pictures are very good.

Cape May & New York June 2012.

A trip that came from nowhere really as I had no real desire to go to the States but having spoke to Pete Dunne I realised he could sell ice to Eskimos. Two very different places that made for a very enjoyable, and relaxing birding place where I unusually allowed myself to be a tourist when in...

    Good-bye to Lagoa dos Salgados?

Such a sad thing when such a great spot has to be "improved" I think having people putting the correct info on such a forum is appreciated and having visited the area in Oct 2011 my wife and I have signed the petition. It reads damage limitation so I just hope it is limited. I listened to a...
