    The British Ornithologist's Union use the IOC List as the basis for the British List, so if you have recorded birds in the UK you've recorded them under BOU taxonomy. It would sense in my opinion to continue to use the IOC taxonomy when abroad.

    Assuming no last minute surprises, of the c 61 changes, 34 affect me with 14 losses and 20 gain so six more on the life list. I'm particularly pleased with the chaffinch, Lesser Sandplover and Cockatoo splits and with the Western Flycatcher lump. The others I'm ok with either way

    The Birdquest 'life list' which consists of all the species seen by paying customers over all their trips during the last 42 years stands at around 10,650. So it's not surprising that no single observer has seen more than 9856 (as of June 2023)
