    I really hope the bridge is up to the job. These are intriguing bins. Low mag in a porro with long e/r is very appealing to me. I love a 7x and I love a porro 🤞👍

    Yes I think 23x too. It's a nightmare CE eyepiece and I like 23x, not too low, not too high. Having said that I love the 17x ep on my MM4 so right and wide. Edit- not "a nightmare CE eye piece". It's a nice eyepiece. Predictive text strikes again!

    Anyone used DBA VHD+ from Opticron

    I have only ever looked through them in a shop but I decided that 8x42 is not for me because it only has a 7 degree field of view. Under par compared to many others that are 8 degrees or more. For me a wide view is important.

    For me the Leica Retrovid 7x35s and Meopta Meostar 7x42s for when it's really wet or I want the extra light gathering.

    Sometime ago I briefly tried the Aurora's to see what all the fuss is about given Ratals huge enthusiasm. decided against them because of the focusser. Notchy and sloppy. Just didn't compare to my Leica, Meopta or Zeiss focusses.

    HDF 40831 vs 40810 question (and other specs)

    I agree. If you're only having one eyepiece then get the SDL3. I have SDL2 and the 17x, 23x and 30x eyepieces. I use the SDL most but the 17x gets a lot of use too. It's so wide and bright. The 23x doesn't get much use and the 30 even less.

    Opticron mm4 60 kit.

    I have the same set up and love it. I really like the 15x lower mag for great depth of field and the same 4mm e/p as an 80mm scope at 20x 👍 Excellent little scope you can carry all day long

    Camo painting for tripod

    I agree. Camo has limited use for birdwatching. It probably helps with mammals though. Fieldcraft is more important. Moving slowly and quietly. Being still when necessary, etc. Just being unobtrusive.

    I have tried the 25-50 without the eyecup in the past and it is pretty much guaranteed to scratch your glasses and didnt give that great an improvement on the e/r. I may have a lead on someone with a lathe so I am hopeful of getting this adaptation done 👍

    That would get me straight down to the optics shop for a trial. I use the BGA 7x36 around the house for garden birds and fly-over raptors. Nice little bins. An upgraded version should be great 👍

    Interesting bins but the e/ps look quite deep set in the eyecups so I suspect useable eye relief is probably not enough for me. If they do suit me for e/r they could make a substitute for my retrovid 7s when it's raining heavily/persistently.

    It's hard to see a 7x Inthe field though. I don't see other bins close enough to tell whether an EDG or a UVHD+ is a 7 or an 8. Only the retrovid 7x35 is recognisable. There are probably more 7s out there than are noticeable. I bet no one but my friends know that Ive been using a host of 7s...

    Trying different scopes and how to compare them.

    I've just been trying out a new scope and found watching insects effective. Looking for the vein patterns on the translucent wings of flies as they say on fence posts was very revealing. As they were relatively close, any heathaze was not apparent.
