    Nikon SE

The SE’s are NOT waterproof or fog proof. I’ve birded in pouring rain with my Ultravid and EL’s that would have ruined the innards of my SE’s.

    Swarovski EL 8.5 x. 42 Model Numbers

The 8.5x42 I recently bought (34208) has the close focus and is remarkably similar to my 11-year old SV. It was a demo in perfect condition and more demos are available if anyone is interested. They also have 10’s in 42 and 50mm. The 10x50 is priced 100 bucks less than what I paid in 2014! A...

    Swarovski EL 8.5 x. 42 Model Numbers

I just purchased an 8.5x42 model number 34208 (like new demo). It does have the close focus of earlier models. According to specs, the 37008 model has the longer close focus and is the latest model widely available.

    rubber conditioner

I've used Armor All on SE eye cups for almost 20 years with great results. Remove the eye cups, cover with Armor All and let them sit overnight. Wipe clean in the morning and you're good to go. I also use Armor All on my Leica and Swarovski bins. It also works on rubber "blooming" (the white stuff).

    A few Swarovski EL questions

After posting, waiting and selling fees you'll probably net $1200 - $1300. Your time involved in selling should be considered in an estate evaluation. If you keep it I'd value it on the low end...$1200 which is probably what it sold for in 2010.

    80mm Spotting like Astronomical instrument?

I do a fair amount of binocular astronomy from my property using 7, 8 and 10X bins. I also use a Nikon ED50 with 16X/27X DS eyepieces and a 13-40 zoom. Our Nikon ED 82A gets some astro use with fixed lenses (30, 50, 75X) along with a 25-75X zoom. The Kowa 883 with the 25-60X zoom produces very...
