Leica Is The Best Forget The Rest!

Greetings! From what I've seen, I'd tend to agree... I own binoculars from every high-end manufacturer, and my Leica Trinovid 7x42's are the LAST binoculars I'd give up if I ever had to sell them all. Best wishes, Bawko

    All-purpose binoculars for under $100

Greetings! For that price range and purpose, I would highly recommend the Brunton Echo 8x25 model. They're around $80, have a nice wide FOV, are waterproof, and reasonably lightweight and compact. I carry a pair in my car glovebox, and have no complaints about their ruggedness or performance...

What binocular specs are important to you?

Greetings! Like the title says, what binocular specifications are the most important to you? For me, it boils down to these, in this order: 1 - Waterproofness/Ruggedness/Durability 2 - FOV 3 - Weight 4 - Sharpness/Resolution 5 - Brightness/Low Light Performance 6 - Size of "Sweet Spot" 7 -...

What make and type of binoculars are sharpest at the edge?

Greetings! The magnificent Nikon 10x25 LX (HG) is the sharpest edge-to-edge binocular I have ever used. Best wishes, Bawko

    Top 7x42 on the market

Greetings! Yes... that's all fine, but the real burning question is: Is it heavy? :D Best wishes, Bawko

Pentax 10x43 DCF SP review - also compared to Leica

Greetings! Personally owning a Pentax SP as well as a Trinovid, I can say from personal experience that the above comparison review is spot-on. The only thing that I would add is that the Pentax SP binoculars tend to have smaller FOV's than Leica's offerings. Best wishes, Bawko

    looking ahead......

Greetings! The Leica 7x42 Trinovid. I believe this is THE most underrated binocular out there, and it's not being produced any more. Oh... and the Nikon SE line as well. Best wishes, Bawko

    Leica 7x42 Ultravid v Leica 7x42 BN

Greetings! When I bought my Leica 7x42's, I had an opportunity to buy either the Trinovid BN 7x42's, or the Leica Ultravid 7x42's. I found that I actually preferred the handling and image quality of the Trinovids. The Ultravids are undeniably brighter, but not by enough to set them apart as...

Leica 7x42 Bn's Best Binoculars I Have Ever Used!

Greetings! My favorite binoculars of all time... I actually prefer them to Ultravid 7x42s, and had an opportunity to buy either model when I picked up my BN's. Best wishes, Bawko

about to buy some Duovids, should I?

Greetings! I personally think the Minox 8x14 or 10x15 variables are better in every way to the equivalent Duovids, and about half as expensive. Check them out if you haven't already. Best wishes, Bawko

Which of these 8x30/8x32s would you get?

Greetings! APS, you ask a lot of questions - so I'll try and reply with a lot of answers! :) First off, you say that I "preferred these [Minox 8x32 BD] over the SPs". This is not ENTIRELY correct - because of your wording. My favorite pair of full-size 10x binoculars is the Pentax 10x50 SP...

Which of these 8x30/8x32s would you get?

Greetings! The Minox BD 8x32's are great binoculars! They are my own most-used pair, not my favorite, but the ones I grab the most often now when heading out the door. They have a magnificent 400' FOV, are bright and sharp, and weigh less than most other high-end 8x32 options. The focus...

    New Binocular Resolution Test Results

Greetings! I'm glad you are as happy with the 10x25's as I am... they truly are the featherweight jewel of the binocular industry! :) As time goes on, I find myself regularly using only 3 pair out of my fairly large collections of binoculars. Those are: Nikon HG 10x25 Minox BD 8x32 Leica...

Can you do it all with one pair of binos?

Greetings! My experience with your question "Can you do it all with one pair of binos?" is this: The answer is YES - if the pair you choose are $500+ binoculars in 8x32 configuration. Best wishes, Bawko

    Binocular regrets

Greetings! My only regret is not buying several more pairs of imported German and Japanese optics 2 years ago... when they were still somewhat reasonably priced! Best wishes, Bawko

    Looking for a conservation group...

Greetings! I'm updating my will this week, and I'm interested in finding the best conservation group to leave part of my estate to. I'm looking for a group that focuses on preserving bird habitat and attempts (so far as possible) to save endangered species of birds. I am NOT interested in the...

Which one for all around use: Leica 8x42BN,7x42BN,8x32BN

Greetings! While I agree that the 8x32 configuration is the all-around most useful/ergonomic... The 7x42BN is the nicest view I've ever had through any pair of optics - and it's my binocular of choice if I could only have one. Best wishes, Bawko

First big purchase, compromise or not?

Greetings! My advice: Buy the BEST 8x32 you can afford, or even can't afford - don't skimp on that one. Take out a loan if necessary, but NEVER compromise on this one. It will be your workhorse binocular that you'll use 90% of the time. Worry about the 10x later. Best wishes, Bawko

    Binocs for a looooooooooong walk

Greetings! Whenever I go birding and know I'm going to be walking for a while, I almost ALWAYS grab the same pair of binoculars to go with me: Nikon HG 10x25 I've rarely ever been disappointed with that choice, despite my strong preference for low-power (7x or 8x) optics. Best wishes, Bawko

    compacts for $100

Greetings! Find yourself a pair of Brunton Echo 8x25 binoculars. Waterproof, nice wide FOV, clear optics, good close focus, excellent rubber armoring, and only $80. They're easily the best deal on 8x compact optics I've found. Best wishes, Bawko

    New 2007 Leupold Binoculars

Greetings! Wow!!!!! 7-12x32? My dream configuration!!! If these are any good, I'll obtain a pair even if I have to sell off a few of my other optics... I'm so excited I can't stop flapping!!! Best wishes, Bawko

What are the best Compacts? Leica or Nikon?

Greetings! Yes... during my resolution tests, I found the 10x25 compacts to have better resolution across the FOV than full-size x42 and x50 binoculars. Counterintuitive, I know, but I can't argue with the results. They were also sharper from edge-to-edge than the full-size... in fact the...

What are the best Compacts? Leica or Nikon?

Greetings! Optically, you'll find there is no difference between the two. For me, it boils down to: Leica Ultravid: Better ergonomics Nikon HGL: Sturdier construction, lower cost P.S. The thread you referenced is mine, based on the results of my resolutions tests. I found the Leica Ultravid...
