What did you see in your binoculars today?

Aplomado Falcon: I found it in Cameron County Texas on a desert plain not far from the edge of a low brush riparian zone surrounding a man made lake and water treatment facility. It is a known location for them but far less than a “gimmie.” I was in the area for a while looking everywhere...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Just returned from a great trip to South Texas - one of my favorite places to visit as it overlaps both Southwestern USA and the northernmost range of many Mexican species. What a fantastic adventure. The main challenge is geography - Texas is huge and the habitat often hundreds of miles...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Was lucky enough to catch this Gray Ghost Harrier hunting along the water’s edge. Red-flanked Bluetail. It has been hanging around a suburban backyard in New Jersey; fortunately the homeowner is very “birder friendly” and allows folks to stake out. Seen by many but according to my research...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

There are small, wild-breeding populations of Macaws in South Florida, as well as a slightly larger populations of wild parrots and parakeets. However, it isn't wise to provide too much specific information about where they are found. Unfortunately, since they are non-native, Florida does not...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Was in South Florida this week and treated to some great views. A few highlights were a pair of Snail Kites hunting along a small canal, the spectacular Blue and Yellow Macaws, a massive (5 species) flock of parakeets putting on a show complete with vocals, and the almost too cute to be real...
