The review here tells plenty about the authors and literally nothing, about the book e.g what listing authority / nomenclature have they followed, are there new illustrations? I can see from the physical description that it's almost a hundred pages bigger than the 1st ed...

This is because it doesn't cover the Falklands, it only covers Chilean territory, dosn't include South Georgia either for the same reason. Note the 'where to see' text in each account which I think is a really usefull inclusion and the weak colours on the plates, are the result of my ineptitude...

You should visit the British Birdwatching Fair at some point, there are numerous booksellers who have stands there though they tend to be pricey. They carry a good range of books including antiquarian and some that are hard to get.

I've used the same seller for about 25 years and only if they can't get something, do I resort to other sources.

I think we've been privileged to live through what have been the halcyon days for field guides and handbooks. No previous generation has had so much information at their fingertips or such quality illustrations to help with ID. I think though, that now, we may be witnessing the begining of the...

Me too, in fact, apart from regular field guides, it, Shorebirds and Wildfowl, which all came as a three book set from a book club, were one of my very first, serious purchases.

Thanks, I wondered how European mainland was receiving them first. Many are done in China these days too but there has been a noticeable decline in paper and print quality as well as the number of defects being reported.

I had a call this morning and was told that Wildsounds had received a limited number of the hardcover edition but not many and no softcovers yet. Unusual that they're available almost three weeks before the official release date.
