    Moving into May

After a sunny warmish day, the night stayed reasonably mild with 12C at midnight and falling to 8C by dawn. Wind was light. A reasonable haul though numbers of some species such as Pale Tussock I'd expect higher. 13 species new for year, all of them very fresh Farmyard MV 52 moths 25 species...

May 12th Wicklow List 25 species Wicklow List 25 species This time last year I was getting 50 species a night. But after the record breaking low temps of previous nights, anything was a bonus. Min temp of 8C with a bit of a breeze. Had more Cockchafers (6) than moths in the actinic trap...

I agree with the 2004 Oak-tree. It doesn't really matter as you've recorded both species anyway. Have a look at one of the pics on ukmoths of Brindled Pug. http://ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=1973 I'm rarely assertive when it comes to giving Ids to photos, I get too many of them wrong, and...

I don't agree with that, I still think it's Brindled pug. Do you have a size for it by any chance? It was your first pug of the year. I reckon if that's not Brindled I'd have to seriously look at all my records of this species. When Oak-tree pug appeared it was obviously different (my one's...

    Moving into May

Glyphipterix simpliciella (Cocksfoot Moth) I've been looking out for this micro moth for a few days now, by looking at Buttercup and dandelion flowers. None seen and then today they are evrywhere! Talk about a mass emergence. There was at least four in every buttercup and there were over 50 in...

Yes for Rush veneer and "sandy event" I'd say yes for Iron Prominent and I'll pass on the other.

    Moving into May

Maybe the question yesterday should have been why the farmyard MV did so well as last night was a relatively poor night. A high min temp of 11C, it was fresh and breezy with mist at times. The day was warm and sunny at times. The fresh and breezy part seems to be the key. Got 2 new for year...

    Moving into May

I'd say a fairly worn Caloptilia stigmatella.

    Moving into May

I think the Quaker is Powdered, The first micro I want to call 986 Syndemis musculana, But I have a big but over that and i think it's probably something else. Quite often a side shot (or at least partly from the side) can be more help and certainly an indication of size. Don't the other...

    Moving into May

Yes I think it is E immundana. I got 3 last night that I forgot to include in my list above, bringing the total to 30 species. Sedge Warbler and Whitethroat should be next arrivals to my patch. I'll have a look for latter today.

    Moving into May

Good morning all, Min of 9C and foggy. The farmyard MV saved my bacon as not many in the other 2 traps. The Silver Y are not my first of year as I had one in January. 7 new species for year and another couple new for this April, so tried to make up some of the shortfall compared to past...

    Moving into May

Good morning! Knew it would be raining so only had the one MV trap on. Earliest Mottled Rustic on record by 2 days, though had to go to May 24th for the next one. Muslin Moth is about right with timing. Been a while since a small Quaker and this one was fairly fresh. * new for year...
