    The observer reckons he has relocated the male bird mentioned here and it has a buff wingbar and dark rump so now reckons it is a Lesser Redpoll. I still reckon bird 3 could still be a flammea but you can't be sure from the pics. Thanks for your help guys.

    The covert bar on this one looks to be towards the cabaret end of that scale to me. All the illustrations I can find of flammea show a white wingbar for adult male. Is this not correct?

    OK, pics 1 and 2 are of the same bird. They look OK for flammea except for the rather buff-looking wingbar. I thought male flammea should have a white wingbar. Pic three looks to have the whitest covert bar of all. I have no problem with the cabaret in pic 4. There are more pics of the...
