I am thinking the new 32 mm alphas from Swarovski and Zeiss are the best birding binoculars you can buy right now.

I had Lasik back in 2000, on one eye. I had glare issues at night, not to be trifled with. Eventually it settled some, and I had lasik on the other eye done. Didn't need glasses until a couple of years back when I started to use progressive lenses. I complain about glare too at times. My...

😄 I think he will hold on to it for now. He is not an enthusiast, but knows he has a fine bino. I think the size is perfect.

Olivon is a lower tier brand of binoculars. They do have the odd ED glass variant. The Olivon tube I looked through was really awful with excessive ca, moderate sharpness and low contrast with smeary edges. I have looked through a few cheap tubes and the Olivon is probably the worst so far.

I am thinking the new 32 mm alphas from Swarovski and Zeiss are the best birding binoculars you can buy right now.

Well, that is nice - lucky you! Binocular life would be so much easier for me if I wasn't CA sensitive. CA is a deal breaker for me in most cases. A good friend has the Ultravid HD Plus 8x32 which was on my short list to get myself. I get too much reflections from them using them with my...

I am thinking the new 32 mm alphas from Swarovski and Zeiss are the best birding binoculars you can buy right now.

It was very good, weather was nice and sunny with clear skies so it was not challenging for the bino, but the image was bright and uniform with no major image degradation towards the edges. Some minor CA, on par with the Leicas (comparable to some Ultravids) but overall great performance for the...

I am thinking the new 32 mm alphas from Swarovski and Zeiss are the best birding binoculars you can buy right now.

Thotmosis; not to give too much of false hope but my former pair of Zeiss 10x32 FL might be up for sale. I need to ask my friend who has them if he is still considering selling them. Right ocular is a bit stiff on them I haven't looked into if it is just a case of some minor love and attention...

I did try a Meostar 8x42 last year, it was sent out by mistake but I gave it a try. The viewing was very relaxed and a step up in viewing comfort from the Meopta 8x32 which I really like.

I am thinking the new 32 mm alphas from Swarovski and Zeiss are the best birding binoculars you can buy right now.

Dennis: from memory trying a Duovid in Frankfurt Airport a few years back I was surprised by the high CA. Lost all interest for that specific model there and then. CA level is not the only criteria I go by but it at the Alpha glass level I would like as little as possible. I envy people who...

I am thinking the new 32 mm alphas from Swarovski and Zeiss are the best birding binoculars you can buy right now.

I have never had weight restrictions on my binos myself. I have been too obsessed with having a convenient sized main bino. The few times I have peered through a 42 side by side with a 32 I have mostly preferred the 42. With the 8x32 Zeiss FL and the Pure NL 8x32 I found both more than good...

I am thinking the new 32 mm alphas from Swarovski and Zeiss are the best birding binoculars you can buy right now.

The main reason would be bulk, the other reason would be that the Duovid (from memory) has too much CA. With the pair I can choose to just bring the 8x which I use almost exclusively for hikes and walks when birding is not the main activity.

I am thinking the new 32 mm alphas from Swarovski and Zeiss are the best birding binoculars you can buy right now.

For ID they work fine handheld and if the feathery carcass is patient enough I drop down the Manfrotto monopod. For BIF and handheld the 12x50 has no disadvantage at all for me over a 10x. Carrying the 12x ready on the monopod is not a problem and fast to deploy. During my Dennisesque 😜...

I am thinking the new 32 mm alphas from Swarovski and Zeiss are the best birding binoculars you can buy right now.

Just chiming in and agreeing the 32mm seems to be the new cut off point towards optical excellency in a reasonable package. Well, I thought so long time ago when the Zeiss FL 8x32 and 10x32 were out but it seemed the rest of the manufacturers lagged behind in what, at the time, seemed most...
