    'Ethical' binocular companies

As the initiator of what turned out to be a more vituperative thread than I had expected, I couldn't agree more!

One thing that we can all agree on is that there are circumstances in which the humane killing of an animal to put it of its misery is the best course of action. Does that also apply to threads on BF?

I wouldn't disagree with any of your points, but as the report came from an organisation calling itself the ethical consumer I thought using the word in the thread title was sensible (although as a precaution, which seems not to have worked, I added inverted commas). I've certainly learnt that...

NDHunter "I stand by all I have posted above. I sense a superior attitude that does not go well with some on the forum." I'm saddened that, despite your being entirely unable to point to any word or phrase of mine to demonstrate my supposed "arrogant attitude" or how you "know" my intent better...

NDHunter: "Don't try to dismiss your intent to put a negative on hunting, in your ethical discussion theme. Oh Deer, some on here have found you out, and don't try to talk cutesy, with your arrogant attitude to others on the site". jgraider: you and JC are two peas in a pod....misinformed...

    'Ethical' binocular companies

Oh dear, you just had to torpedo my attempt to lighten the mood and shift the chat in a more harmonious direction, didn't you? It's really not necessary at all. The truth is that it's a common trait whether or not any "misinformation and ignorance" (as you perceive it to be) is involved.

It's always satisfying to see my sesquipedalian loquaciousness recognised and approved of, Lee!

    'Ethical' binocular companies

There has to be a paper somewhere or Ph.D. opportunity on how and why certain threads like this develop a life of their own and wander so far away from the original topic matter. Perhaps the controversial nature of the subject, the random selection of highly opinionated posters it attracts or...

    'Ethical' binocular companies

Well, my dear old Mum dead these past 16 years, still metaphorically sits on my shoulder telling me to 'Behave!' when I fail to walk along the pavement next to the curb so my wife is protected from unwanted splashes, insists I should stand and let the old and infirm have my seat, etc., etc...

    'Ethical' binocular companies

As I started the thread I can honestly say that I didn't do so to set up "an anti-hunting thread". Some posters seem to be so sensitive to this issue that they didn't notice that I put ethical in inverted commas (implying, I thought, that this was a limited application of the word) nor how I...

    'Ethical' binocular companies

I think you'd have a point if an optics company advertised and tried to capitalise on the fact that it was developing optics specifically tailored for the "dictator market" to enable their forces to be more despotic and used images & endorsements garnered thereby in their publicity campaigns. I...

I agree with your first couple of points, Henry, but fear your conclusion may yet prove accurate. I'm certainly gratified that a real expert like yourself found it useful enough to book mark.

Thanks, Jos. I thought I'd been careful to make the distinction which you've picked up on. You're right in your understanding of my comment and my intentions in posting the information. Some birding friends, unlike me, would have profound reservations about buying from companies that actively...

    'Ethical' binocular companies

Whilst most of us tend to buy binoculars entirely on the basis of cost and utility, some may have reservations about purchasing instruments from companies that actively support hunting. If so, they may find this report on 'ethical' optics companies useful...
