    You should expect this. Anything over 200 is apt to be noisy with a point-and-shoot camera. They're almost all like that. These high ISOs are available in some of the newer point-and-shoot cameras as a "if you absolutely need it, it's better than nothing" capability, and as a marketing gimmick...

    The TCON17 does not lose any stops. It is not like an SLR teleconverter that sits between the camera and the lens.

    Dpreview is just a popular website that has a lot of camera reviews: http://www.dpreview.com/ Concerning high noise with ISO 400 and above, this is pretty standard for non-DSLR cameras. The 550 is probably not worse in this category than other super-zooms or point-and-shoots, and maybe better...

    There is no current camera that compares with it for max zoom magnification, or for zoom range. So you haven't missed some other model that you haven't heard of. Some of the Fuji superzooms start at 28mm (S9100, etc) but only go to 300mm. The Oly camera really is a breakthru. I expect that other...
