MAK, According to the one source available to us (http://home.europa.com/~telscope/zeissbn2.txt) the 6.5 deg. Zeiss Oberkochen 8x30B porro - which is the type we're talking about - was made from 1958 through 1968. sammyboy, Zeiss serial numbers are continuous. I think there can differences between models as I expect serial numbers were assigned to batches of production, but these differences should be small and of no great consequence. As implied in an earlier post, I'm not too impressed by Zeiss' accuracy in supplying years of manufacturing (linked to serial numbers). See this: Sammyboy's Dialyt (serial number 745125) is an early long type manufactured from 1964 through 1969, yet according to Zeiss it's from 1970. Dalats...- Renze de Vries

James, Sorry, I see I overlooked your earlier post where we seem to disagree. Notably about the introduction of the short, still non-armoured version, and the armoured version.
