    Hawke Frontier ED 8x43!

It appears to me to be how "spongy" is percieved and defined. In this case the definition may be defined by the user on the basis of the slow rate and the seeming delay that causes in getting from one side of the focus to another. That has always been a complaint of sorts I have had with the...

    Hawke Frontier ED 8x43!

Kevin, I "equate" these with nothing but themselves and have stated that they are optically very much closer to the alpha glass than anything else out there out there at $500. I realize the alpha crowd will have a hard time with that. I also have a hard time with the level of apparent optical...

    Hawke Frontier ED 8x43!

John, I have no idea if expensive glass will de-value. Probably not. However all of the "WOW" for expensive binoculars went away for me when I first looked through a Pentax DCF WP in 1996. Since then, it has been, for me anyway, "wow, look how good these $500 binoculars are". I'm not saying...

    Hawke Frontier ED 8x43!

I think the question of what exactly do you get for the extra money you spend for the alpha glass vs the Hawke/Promaster is a valid one. It seems there should indeed be something. Whatever it is it is, it's not giving the buyer much optical difference as you noted. I guess that gets us down...

    Hawke Frontier ED 8x43!

If he's still out there, I have a question for Huan_Lingyun. It is this. What is the deal with the slow focus rate in these binoculars? On one hand it seems molasses slow and on the other it seems OK. Is there a variable rate focus design at work here or is it something else. If you can...

    Hawke Frontier ED 8x43!

On the assumption that the Promaster ELX ED and the Hawke ED are slightly tweaked versions of the same model, I'm going to respond to Huang Linguan's request for what else we'd like to see. My vote is for 7x36 in the smaller glass. Looking at the 7x36 Swift I have, it is apparrent that a 36mm...

    Hawke Frontier ED 8x43!

Frank, Your observations are actually about what I expected. I am not surprised that you like it. What I really wondered was what if any sacrifices might have been given over to the FOV increase. Sounds like none. Hawke even sounds like a better name for an optical tool than Promaster and...
