    If you could have known 3 things before you started birding, what would they be?

    1. Be prepared for the fact that birds don't read maps, stick to well-birded areas, and don't always sing full songs. 2. Most of the time, you don't get to see a nice profile like that shown in field guides. 3. Sometimes, it's best to let the birds come to you, rather than just tromping...
