    Best digiscoping camera?

Here's a couple of random images from the GX80 through the Swaro Scope/20-60 zoom. I haven't used it too much for digiscoping, but I thought it worth sharing which lenses I've used to connect it to the DCA adapter. I can still use the Canon 40mm (plus cheap m4/3 to Canon EOS adapter) though I...

    Best digiscoping camera?

I got hold of an 80D recently, and had a go at digiscoping the Lammergeier that's been in the Peak District for the past few weeks (still there I think?) with it and my favourite digi-scoping lens. Although it is a little heavier than the 600D (less than 200g more) I found it better to use and...

    Best digiscoping camera?

Yes I've tried using the self-timer, and of course it works, but sometimes 2 seconds is too long to wait! In such cases recording video is perhaps the better option with this camera so far, though I've found the image quality of the grabs I've taken have left me a little underwhelmed. For...

    Best digiscoping camera?

I fully agree about carrying too much gear! Having said that, I don't think the Canon M6 ii is much bigger than the camera you have there. Bit heavier maybe. It would also have the advantage of being used with other lenses too if needed, but I appreciate that approach doesn't suit everyone...

    Best digiscoping camera?

Thanks for your reply Ian, and great to hear you're having lots of success with your smart phone. That's one of the reasons why I wanted to restart this thread, to find out what gear people are having success with 2 or 3 years on. Only this week Olympus have announced that they are pulling out...

    Best digiscoping camera?

These two were taken with a Canon 600D & 40mm STM through the Swarovski ATS80HD. So far I haven't had as much success using the Panasonic GX80 for stills as I have with the Canon. Perhaps because so far, I haven't been able to use a wired remote release with the GX80. As far as I know, you can't...

    Best digiscoping camera?

A couple of GX80 stills from earlier this month of the Asian Desert Warbler on Holy Island. They were manual-focussed using the scope's focuser, while I followed the bird using the EVF on the camera-something I would have struggled with using a DSLR as the viewfinder isn't bright enough...

    Best digiscoping camera?

I know that this is an older thread, yet I feel that the digi-scoping forum has been fairly quiet recently, and there are still many unanswered questions to address...not just about cameras, but also smart phone cameras which have been advancing in leaps and bounds since this thread was last...

    Good luck with that! ;)

    Best digiscoping camera?

Hi Alan, that's puzzling? My 40mm STM has a 52mm front filter thread, so the 52mm ring that comes with the DCA adapter screws straight on. As far as I'm aware the filter threads on the newer lenses should still have the same size filter threads. I've had mine about 4 years but worth checking...

    Best digiscoping camera?

I seem to notice more and more birders using smart phones rather than compact cameras these days for digi-scoping. As far as I know the iPhone 4s has an 8mp camera, as I've recently just moved from it to a Samsung Galaxy S6. The 4s is now a bit long in the tooth, so it might be something to...
