    New ATC/ STC 17-40x56 Telescope

Accepted, but they will probably both be appealing to people who want to travel light and not rely upon a *pod / hide clamp / beanbag etc. In that regard, they are very much in the same stable. Accepted that side-by-side is the only truly meaningful way to attempt to quantify pros and cons but...

    New ATC/ STC 17-40x56 Telescope

Just for completeness, I reported upthread in more than one post how the ATC/STC 17-40x56 left me underwhelmed and after battling on with ownership for a while I sold it on and returned to a CTC 30x75. Going 'back' was - for me - an excellent decision. Though I'm still unable to offer any...

    New ATC/ STC 17-40x56 Telescope

Even at lower magnifications (and so) with the EP at >2.5mm I still don't find eye-placement as simple. My sense is that the sheer size of the eyecup on the STC conspires to decrease the ease of easily-repeatable eye placement. The small rubber cup on the CTC - for me anyway - facilitated...

    New ATC/ STC 17-40x56 Telescope

As previously mentioned, I bought an STC to replace my CTC 30x75 drawtube. To reiterate context, I'm an infrequent scope user but when I do take one out then portability, together with a complete lack of clutter, is important to me. I just can't be bothered with big / heavy rigs. For a few...

    New ATC/ STC 17-40x56 Telescope

I'll eventually offer some views, Will: but I'm afraid I won't have the luxury of a side-by-side comparison. The CTC has had to form a p/x for the STC. I'm an infrequent scope user (and even less so since I started to wrestle with an NL12x42 as something of an all-rounder) but I enjoyed the...

    New ATC/ STC 17-40x56 Telescope

Fact check. As far as I can see, Swarovski actually claim: "Thanks to its length of 258 mm (10.2 in), the ATC spotting scope with angled view will fit in any backpack. A weight of just 970 g (34.2 oz) makes it a top choice for tours in rough terrain and remote areas. The clever half shell...

    New ATC/ STC 17-40x56 Telescope

I wondered about that and did all that stuff before posting. If we're to take 56mm as accurate and round the maximum parameters (for rounding) of the exit pupil diameter: then 56/3.35 = 16.72 = 17 but 56/3.44 = 16.28 = 16. Of course, as above: 56/3.40 = 16.47 = 16. I think I'm going to buy the...

    New ATC/ STC 17-40x56 Telescope

Further to my earlier reference querying actual objective lens diameter (Swarovski's own info refers to an effective lens diameter of 56mm): I further note from Swaro's website that exit pupil diameter reportedly ranges between 1.4 and 3.4mm. 56/1.4 = 40x magnification: all good. 56/3.4 =...

    New ATC/ STC 17-40x56 Telescope

@Gijs van Ginkel Thanks for the report. I note you measure the Swaro's objective lens diameter at 50.9mm. Swarovski bumph refers to an "Effective" objective lens diameter of 56mm. Apols if I'm missing something but can anyone advise on this apparent discrepancy?
