    Thanks Nick and Elina for the kind words.. I had planned to do a bigger piece for this composition, but a quick sketch developed into this! I use a combination of soft pastels for the background and for blocking in the areas then conte crayons for the details.

    Thanks everyone. As Matt has mentioned, for those of you who have not been following the rare birds thread on this particular sparrow, I am going to give this painting to the kind people who found the bird and who have been so accommodating to everyone. I hope they like it! Jo

    Thanks, Yes that's why I chose the black card, they are really stunning metallic birds and I wanted to use the bright pastels to accentuate this quality.
