    The problem is, the limit between what is "plain wrong" and the rest is a quite blurry one. As is noted in the Code, swifts do have legs, thus Apus is (plain?) wrong too. Where do you stop? As they say, "For other uses, see Île-de-France (disambiguation)."

    Statius Müller 1776 [OD] cited Buffon and gave "Isle-de-France" as the bird's origin. He presumably based himself on the Planche Enluminée n° 252 [here], where the bird is given as "Guêpier de l'Isle-de-France". (The earliest actual description by Buffon that I seemingly can find ([here]) is...
