    About Pike nevermind. Nicholas Pike did not collect the algae from California. He sent a collection of a Mrs. & Mr. Frye who did collect in California and sent them to Harvey in Dublin under his own name. He may have not collected any birds in California or at sea on the way to California...

    The Lee paper in the Auk which surmised that Pike was in the southern seas prior to Lawrence descriptions of his birds is wrong.
