Terrific birding walking the Loch Leven heritage trail this morning. (4 hours, 28 minutes thanks for asking) :D Warbler wonderland with chiffchaffs, willow warblers, blackcaps & sedge warblers every few yards. There were plenty whitethroats in the hedgerows along the west side of the loch and...

I don't think any of the ospreys visiting the nest site have been LM12. She gave up and went and caught a fish for herself this afternoon.

Looks like the ospreys at Loch of the Lowes might fail this year. 3 eggs laid but male not seen for several days and female now leaving nest for extended periods of time.

Oddly enough the air was full of nuthatch calls at Bluebell Wood near Kinclaven, Blairgowrie on Saturday. They're tricky little sods to catch sight of though. The notion of nuthatches being found in Perthshire woods would have been absurd when I started birding.

Several wheatears on the rocks at Crail this morning and some stonechats too. Also a sand martin flew in from The Forth. Heavy rain at Morton Lochs so not much around but there was this:

Drake bufflehead still at Findatie sands this lunchtime. Also the drake smew was still on (a very wet and windy) Cameron Reservoir with goldeneyes.

Long lunchtime walk round Rodney gardens and South Inch to brush off the cobwebs. Greenfinch was my first bird of 2024 which I didn't expect. It's usually a feral pigeon or herring gull :) Good birds today were sparrowhawk, bullfinch, goosander, common gull (not common here), mistle thrush...

I knew Mrs Mac who had it when it was an actual cheese shop! Used to get our paraffin from there!

Nipped into Riverside Nature Park today. There were a lot of dog walkers so it was quiet. Lots of robins (I mean really, really lots) and plenty song thrushes and redwings. Bullfinch, long-tailed tit and chiffchaff in the quieter bit down by the bottom field. A lone buzzard was the only raptor...

Netherton was where they are/were. The policies around that bend on the Drimmie road.

There have been green woodpeckers at Backwater since the 1980's at least. Bridge of Cally since then also. I saw one a few years ago in the kids playpark at Potterhill in Perth too.

Took a wheech roond Fife on Wednesday. Letham pools, Clatto reservoir, Elie (to see the king eider), Kingsbarns (hoping for corn bunting), St Andrews, Guardbridge and Morton Lochs. Decent day out though only got very distant views of the eider thanks to the help of a couple of local birders...
