    Thanks for the tip, bughunter. I'll try your technique. However, to get digital zoom you need to access the Menu to make setting changes. When you zoom back to optical, do you have to go back to the Menu?

    Very nice, Bughunter. The difference between your photos and mine is the Swaro scope, no doubt. What is your technique for focusing? The A590IS doesn't have the best LCD available (only 115,000 pixels compared to 230,000 for the Nikon Coolpix 5100). Do you use Av setting, Macro or Manual focus?

    Bob, how close does your scope eyepiece get to the camera lens (say, in mm.)? I'm wondering if there's much difference in output quality if such distance varies by a few millimeters. Maybe the answer may have two components: (1) a P&S zoom lens and (b) a fixed DSLR lens.
