Stunning photos. Like everyone I just love the Spitfire. Am I correct in thinking the Mark 9 was perceived as the ultimate model....the best of the best so to speak?

Wow! I know I’ve said it before but your photographs are just stunning John.

What is the latest update about USAF KC135s? They were meant to be replaced decades ago. Obviously keeps getting delayed.

Fantastic photos of the KC135 John. Love that plane, more or less a 707 but with a slightly modified and strengthened body. Nearly 60 years old now, but I think it’s graceful lines betray it’s antiquity.

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

Yes.............now thats a real Lightning! Seeing one of these perform a low, high-speed bypass as a child at an airshow was always the highlight. Boy they could move! Top speed 1,500mph

I love F15s but am surprised that in this day and age there is a perceived role for them still. I thought they were being retired? I presume they have had avionics upgraded? Much prefer them to the horrible looking thing the RAF have now bought from the US.

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

John, your photos are just stunning. It seems many many years ago when I used to love watching BOAC 707s, VC10s, and then 747s dropping into Manchester Airport when I lived near there as a kid. And also things like British Caledonian 707s, TWA and Pan Am 707s, Spantax CV990s, Air Spain DC-8s...

Used to love Fairford, with the Russian stuff especially. But have to say the best flypasts were either the Lightning or the Phantom - what a noise!! Favourite modern era fighters are F15, F16 or Typhoon.

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

Love the old BOAC scheme. Used to love seeing 707s, VC-10s, 747s in that scheme!

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

It’s certainly the highest read post I’ve ever posted. Is the Wash bombing range at Gedney Drive End? I recall seeing 6 Monty’s there about ten years ago , totally unconcerned by the RAF harriers ironically dropping dumby bombs on harriers.

Always thought the F15 is one handsome-looking fighter. I thought they had been replaced sadly, surprised they are still active.

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

My God!!! That Spitfire photo is the best I have ever seen, so crystal clear and banking superbly - the perfect angle to display its so-sexy profile.:t:

Love those old Guppy photos. Used to see them quite a lot. Old piston airliners were fantastic.

I really struggle with the issue of apostrophes John. Bloody great photographs by the way. Love the Lanc, Me109s and Spitfire photographs especially.

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

Love that 2nd image. Never seen two Lancs together. Always admired the bomber crews of Lancs or B17's who had such a high attrition rate compared to their equally heroic fighter pilot comrades. The sound of 2 Lancs together must be something special - never mind a squadron of them!

I haven't yet got onto the aircraft stories you very kindly sent me (no hurry is there!), but I am thoroughly enjoying "Birduder 344", just up to your great birding Scily experience, and being shut out the room in your briefs having gone to the wc !! Its a great read, and I can associate with...

Anyone else like Birds AND planes?

Wow magnificent tales. I was always fascinated by WW2 machines, went to the IWM in London last year and I particularly wanted to see the Heinkel HE111 German bomber with its vulnerable cockpit. Think it left a lasting memory with me to see how vulnerable they were, getting shot to pieces. I...

Wow 16 Spits in the air! Must have been a hell of a sound. Love that 4th image especially of the Spit closing in on the ME109.

That's a cracking story, what a wonderful present from your lads. Fair play for you persevering after 3 anti-climaxes, and enjoying your dream flight. I live 5 miles from RAF Cosford museum, where there is a Hurricane, Spitfire, Mustang, and I think a Tiger Moth as well as loads more. I take my...
