gulls (2 Viewers)

Two Yellow-legged Gulls. Dambovita river, November 7th. About the first one I presume it's a subadult (4cy?)...

Hi Ies,

Here is a view of the upper wing for the first bird. Also a shot with another supposed 3cy/4cy bird.

Hi Ies,

I suppose the first one is a 4cy, in all respects as adult with only a small mirror on p9, a few black marking on alula feathers and primary coverts and a broken indistinct black band on the gonys. The second one is a 3cy I think, note the dark peppered iris, immature bill, pale yellowish legs, dark marked under wing pattern and you can see at the underside of the tertials that they show some immature dark patterns.

i agree that the last bird is a 3cy albeit one with an incredibly large p9 mirror for a micha! or is it a very retarded 4th cycle?

that 1cy mich (3rd one in #1568) has incredibly large pale inner webs to primaries, reaching up to p10! do you have one more pics with it? usually cach has more obvious pale inner webs but i also think this feature is overestimated since variation is large. dark blobs at the distal end of inner wbs are usually stronger in cach though. nice pics, cris. i love 2cy cachs!

I suppose that this is the same bird as in the last pic from post #1568...Looks like a cachinellis 8-P

oh yes, sorry.
very nice pics, a real gift ;) thankxB :)

1 is a dark and very classic 1cy mich but with little visible covert moult.
2 i'd liked to see more of it. has a bland cachi eye, but bill is on the 'micha edge' for a caspian. but could well be a nice 2cy micha with pale bill and a cach eye ;)
3 slightly retarded 3rd winter mich, strong alternate plumage striation and a bill that normally will turn adult like in spring, perhaps with a small black mark.
4 again a cach with a short bill - by the looks of it although large eyed. note collar and filigrane additional tailbands towards base. anymore of this one?
5 an unlucky probable 4cy (4th cycle) with retarded bill. but it may even be older.

thanks a lot, beautiful birds they are...:king:
