How Is Your 2017 List Going? (3 Viewers)

Among a mixed-species flock in my yard this evening, I picked out one new bird for the year.

199. Orange-crowned Warbler

This is an early date for this species, which tends to migrate through this area in late September and October.

299. Bearded Tit

A big family group today at Hjälstaviken, Sweden. This had been a bit of a bogey bird for me in Sweden, so it was nice to finally scratch it off the list!

Went out to Björn, a small island of the Uppland coast today and picked up three year ticks. The Owl was a Swedish lifer, a surprising one too at such a location.

300. Eurasian Eagle-Owl
301. Arctic Skua
302. Yellow-browed Warbler

A poor August:

256 Tree Sparrow

September has started better, looking like it started in the USA!:

257 Pectoral Sandpiper
258 Least Sandpiper
259 Stilt Sandpiper
260 Buff-breasted Sandpiper
261 Wryneck
262 Grey Phalarope

I forgot to add Ring-necked Parakeet that I found whilst walking my dog a couple of weeks ago.

211. R.N Parakeet.

I have been away for a couple of days working my way down to Dorset and back. Birds added:

212. Sabine's Gull
213. Woodchat Shrike
214. Yellow Wagtail
215. Least Sandpiper
216. Wryneck
217. Grey Phalarope
218. Glossy Ibis

I have had a couple of days in Norfolk. One lifer out of it and over seven hours over two days trying to find another (Pallas' Grasshopper Warbler) without success.

219. Arctic Warbler (Lifer)

I arrived home from a 3 week trip to South Afica and Swaziland today, so my list is long. All birds already confirmed, but there will probably be more once I look at the photos on my PC.

Early this evening, just before dark, I heard a pair of Great Horned Owls in the woods behind the house. I went into the woods and got a brief glimpse of one as it flew off.

202. Great Horned Owl

Dave

Today I added three birds to my Year List, the first time since mid-May that I've added so many in one day.

203. Nashville Warbler
204. Connecticut Warbler
205. Lincoln's Sparrow

Dave

303. Red-flanked Bluetail
304. Dusky Warbler
305. Black Guillemot

A fun morning today on Björn. Lots of common migrants today, plus the fantastic Bluetail and the very skulky Dusky Warbler. The Bluetail was a Swedish tick and the Warbler a world tick.

More from South Africa in September:
Thankfully I take lots of photos, as I can't recall a lot of what I've seen otherwise. See 7 different species in short order but only remember 3 or 4!
513 White eared Barbet L
514 Zitting Cisticola
515 Black-chested Snake Eagle
516 Pale crowned Cisticola
517 Rufous winged Cisticola L
