Gulls, Normandy, France (1 Viewer)

Hello everyone,

from my trip to Normandy in August.
a lot of gulls! Juveniles are hard to tell as usual for me(

Please correct me if I am wrong
1-2 juv herring gull
3-4 2yo lesser black-backed gull
5 common tern? adult? already in a winter plumage?

Hello Alexey.
As Graham mention, Sandwich Tern, note long black bill with a pale yellowish tip, structure and wingtip pattern.

The first juvenile/first winter gull is a Herring Gull.
The big brute is a Great Black-backed Gull - a 4cy type. Note the heavy bill - much less heavy in LBBG which also has a different structure.

1 and 2 - Herring Gull. 3 and 4 - GBB Gull (strong and relative short bill, short primaries projection, big head etc). 5 - Sandwich Tern (long dark bill with a yellow tip etc).

i agree with cristian and jan, first 2 pics juvenile herring gull (see pale inner primaries), pics 3-4 greater black-backed gull, 3cy type for me (3rd winter type) and 5 is a sandwich tern.
