Misty Drizzling Dawn

.
Peregrine
Arbiter of death
Master of the skies
Dark hooded helmet
Aerial slate scythe

Males locked-onto watchfully
Females inspire panic, scream, flee
'Bosies' let knowing feminists smile wry
You don't seem to flap, just glide
Tractor beam pulls you, across the sky

Misty rain curtails hunting circuits
In dim dawning morning light
Perched on bare branches, hidden from eye
Drizzle demands refrain, no good to fly
Sit patiently, allowing wings to dry

Lord of time .....
Cockatoo - life in its hands, screeches overhead
You're content, to stay on land
Galahs demented, all in a twitter
Barely controlled flip-flop and flitter

Dark skies, normal blue fades to black
Drying wings held out, like a harrier jump-jet
Taking your time, no need to fly just yet
Shimmy of chest, shake of tail, scratch of nose
Ruffle of feathers, not quite ready to go

Break in the clouds - cicadas a buzzing
Colours slowly appear, with lightening skies,
Black Darth Vader helmet
Bright yellow claws of doom
Birds fear you - I can clearly see why

Watchfully, you bide your time

Palpable tension to launch, starts to rise
Ominous sense, for whom the bell tolls
None want to hear that chime
Send some poor critter to heaven, today they die
Soldier birds in a panic, their cries couldn't get much higher

Wings lifted to dry, like a cormorant on a rock
You don't care who sees you - in dry dock
Wind starts to blow stronger from a gentle breeze
Wings dried, soon you'll take to the skies with ease
Survey surroundings, your wait at an end

Suddenly ! she's off with a start
In a mere fraction of a second, if even that
Seeking birds, laden with wings full of water
Struggling to get off the ground
Visually you'll sniff them out, like a blood hound

Mass panic was epic
This is life and death
Not some observer's picnic
Valiant attempts, all too soon you're gone
Vanish behind, the tree-line beyond

Pause in a distant tree, hidden from sight
You're off again, a temporary respite
Unseen path of fear, given away by cries of terror, scattering of wings
Not successful this time
It won't be too long, before you shred something ....

Hours long pitstop in the rain
How lucky am I
Missed breakfast turns to brunch
My stomach protests, grumbling cry
But I've got a full smile - a country mile wide

Did or didn't I post this morning?
I don't think so, so.....
Had that question too - usually means I missed a day!
I'm sick with the flu...:-C
So sorry to hear that! Hope you're better soon!

Chosun, you have a grand appreciation for BOP ! It seems you have such great chances to watch them too....

Sal - you have real creativity too! This contest has really created some fun - sorry I'm not contributing too much today. Perhaps tomorrow I'll have a few more minutes.... Sleep will be good soon.
