A classic rotation

Today, the 8x30's stored, the 7x42's came out. Yes, you are correct. The original open bridge design.

It is too bad that binoculars weren't built like this particular fountain pen. I have been using an aerometric Parker 51 since 1972. I got 2 of them for 12 bucks from a local Jeweler who was cleaning up his store after Hurricane Agnes flooded the city. I have never put ink in the 2nd pen. Nothing fancy about either pen; stainless caps and black bodies but they both have gold nibs.

Yes the 51' may be the high point of fountain pen design, as far as sheer functionality and durability goes. I have a few of them, and use one everyday. A couple of my binos may in a sense be similar. I still use a binos from 22 years ago (roofs) and a couple porro pairs that are older. They like the 51', may well outlast me.
But the 51' is from a time when a quality product was usually expected by its purchaser to operate for decades.
