How is your 2012 List Going? (1 Viewer)

Wow, Jeff, if that's a slow day in Texas ... I'll take it!

Just seeing a list of what's on the way gives me hope...

PeteR

Another cold front passing through now on what traditionally is one of the best weekends of spring migration, so coastal sites should have big fallouts. Unfortunately, I'm working today and can't go far tomorrow! I may try to get to a nearby park in the morning, though.

Yesterday driving home:
224. Red-headed Woodpecker
Normally see these the first week of January and often thereafter. Amazing that it's taken so long this year.

Jeff

Ten new birds this morning, so I'm now up to 163 for the year.

154. Wood Thrush
155. Eastern Warbling Vireo
156. Cerulean Warbler
157. American Redstart
158. Gray Catbird
159. Purple Martin
160. Blue-winged Warbler
161. Worm-eating Warbler
162. Black-and-white Warbler
163. Ovenbird

Of these, three were West Virginia state lifers (Eastern Warbling Vireo, Cerulean Warbler, and Purple Martin).

Dave

This morning I birded Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, Mound City, Missouri and recorded four new Missouri year birds.

148. Franklin's Gull
149. Buff-breasted Sandpiper
150. Baird's Sandpiper
151. Northern Bobwhite (l should of had this one earlier in the year, but somehow it evaded me!)

Five new birds today, so I'm now at 168 for the year.

164. Solitary Sandpiper
165. Hooded Warbler
166. Kentucky Warbler
167. Lesser Yellowlegs
168. Indigo Bunting

Dave

Unfortunately, the north winds went so far south that they stopped most birds from leaving Mexico over the weekend. Today - when I'm back at work, of course - there is a bit of a fallout. At the college this morning I added:
225. Nashville Warbler

Jeff

Only a few good birds at a local nature sanctuary this morning:
226. Magnolia Warbler
227. Swainson's Thrush
228. Gray-cheeked Thrush
229. Ovenbird

Jeff

April 23rd at Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, Mound City, Missouri.
152. American Avocet
153. Cliff Swallow

154. Grasshopper Sparrow, Muskrat Lake, Saint Joseph, Missouri (April 24th)
155. Forster's Tern (same as above)
156. Broad-winged Hawk (same as above)
157. Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Bluff Woods Conservation Area, Halls, Missouri.
158. Kentucky Warbler, Bluff Woods CA

At the college this morning:
230. Western Kingbird

By the end of April 25 last year I was on 231, so at least I'm being consistent!

Jeff

today of Falmouth:

173. Manx Shearwater

also had a Skua sp and some 'Comic' Terns, but conditions and distance left them unidentified... should get them back soon enough though.

Only one new bird today, probably the result of a cold snap that brought a couple of inches of snow the day before yesterday, and therefore affected migration.

172. Northern Parula

Dave

Three (3) new Missouri Year Birds today.

159. Wilson's Phalarope, Horseshoe Lake, Saint Joseph, Missouri.
160. Eastern Kingbird, Lake Contrary, Saint Joseph, Missouri.
161. Long-billed Dowitcher, Horseshoe Lake, Saint Joseph, Missouri

162. House Wren, in our yard, Saint Joseph, Missouri

Just had some birds show up in our backyard!
163. Swainson's Thrush
164. Gray-cheeked Thrush

I am currently down south in Joplin, Missouri attending the Spring Meeting of the Audubon Society of Missouri. I added six (6) species of birds to my 2012 Missouri Year List.

165. Yellow-throated Warbler
166. Gray Catbird
167. White-eyed Vireo
168. Summer Tanager
169. Pine Warbler
170. Carolina Chickadee

* I expect to add a few more today at Roaring River State Park. Might get Painted Bunting, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher and some others.

Despite cold, windy weather, I added four birds to my Year List this morning, so I'm up to 176.

173. Blue-headed Vireo
174. Cliff Swallow
175. Bank Swallow
176. Black-throated Green Warbler

The vireo and Bank Swallow were West Virginia state lifers, numbers 154 and 155, respectively.

Dave

Two more new birds for the year, so I'm now up to 179.

178. Baltimore Oriole
179. Grasshopper Sparrow

I also saw an Empidonax flycatcher, but it wasn't calling so I couldn't identify it, and therefore can't count it for my Year List.

Dave
