What birds have bright orange beaks? (1 Viewer)

Today for a short time there were four birds bathing on the shore of our pond. They were the size of a large duck. They had bright orange beaks with a white tip. The heads were gray with white rings around the eyes. The upper body was brown and there was a black strip from the middle of the head and down the middle of the back. The upper part of the wing was gray and the lower part black.
Any help in identifying these birds would be appreciated.
