Kinglet in San Francisco ? (1 Viewer)

Took this photo yesterday - assume it's a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, but not sure.
Do they not show the crown in Winter?

Bill is far too thick for any sort of Kinglet. That coupled with the hook on the end is diagnostic for Hutton's Vireo.
 
Congratulations on your lifer! Another point about Hutton's Vireo: the legs and feet are all gray. Kinglets have black legs and yellow feet.

As the other have said, a Hutton's Vireo. As for your other question, the ruby color on the crown of a Ruby-crowned Kinglet is usually concealed; it is normally only seen when a bird is interacting with another kinglet. This happens more often in summer than winter, but it does sometimes happen in winter. I saw one this afternoon that was vigorously showing its crown color, but I saw a lot more that were not.
