SHRUB MILL...Xmas Eve....10 am
Bit wild and windy but bet it was calmer than Yesterday though.
Apart from a few of the usual Mallard,Coot Moorhen and Tufteds it was so quite bird wise...all the Gulls that have been here for a couple of weeks were gone...as were the 2 Egrets.

I had only sneaked here for a short time as I was supposed to be getting some bread and as I turned to leave an Egret came over the far trees and landed in one of it fave trees.....so happy at least one was still here I got to my car and then the other Egret came over the trees almost by the road before turning to fly down the far end .....both of them then flew into the far corner as I drove off.

On the way home I stopped to look into Micks Wood...aka the Shrike Field...well you never know lightning MIGHT strike again.....but all I got was a Male Kestrel and a very distant pair of Buzzards.....all of them mimicking the Shrikes method of hunting...from the top of saplings.
No idea how the pics came out as good as the Kestrel was almost to the big Oak with the Buzzards much further to the right.

Returned to Shrub Mill at 3pm and again no Egrets until one again flew into far trees before coming up the pool and drop behind the closest reeds..into the River Arrow....I walked to around the gate and saw it feeding and then spotted the other one just as the both of them flew up again back down to the far end...ready to roost I suppose as it was getting a bit dark then.

Reports on 'Worcester birding' of a crossbill at Upper this morning... I was around the reservoirs at 3:30-5:30 but only managed about 30 Wigeon on Upper and around 30 Teal on Lower with 3 Gadwall on mill shrub.

Quick visit....Mill Shrub.
I pair of Gadwall and a pair of GC Grebe building nest.
About a dozen Teal dabbling on the edge of water on Lower.

In fields behind Fishery a lot of GS Woodpeckers drumming.

2 small waders feeding separately in the shallows on Lower at about 5pm. Sandpiper like but impossible (for me) to be certain of which species, if a sandpiper at all with only my binoculars. Bird seemed to have white underneath and brown back, and in flight (left to right) displayed a white fan tail. Upon landing, the bird proceeded to bob up and down before continuing to feed. Any ideas??? Possibly green sandpiper, may be worth returning tomorrow with the scope.
