Big winds, little rain, and only a few migrants dropping in. But at least some good ones today. Ran out to park after work so only had a short time

Added a few birds yesterday. Saw more Magnolia Warblers on saturday than i think i have seen in the past five years. Stopped counting at 10. All males, and was unable to get pic's of any because they were in the heavy mangroves in several areas. Still a fun day. Took my wife to breakfast than for a walk at local preserve. Wonderful morning, 63 deg F and no humidity. Even managed to add a year bird too.

Migration is coming to a close and we begin the "lean" times in our area. Shorebirds that go north to breed will be leaving soon. Migrants will be few and far between if any at all. Temp's already heading up into the mid 90's F so summer is almost here.

Been having to travel to find new year birds. Did a six hour round trip over to West Palm Beach area to locate the Least Grebe that has been hanging out for a few months now. Always amazing how these birds end up on such a small pond. Florida rare bird that apparently breed at this location a few years ago. So just a few to add for now.

quick trip an hours south to Sarasota this morning. First to Siesta Key for Snowy Plovers. They breed in area. 6 located this morning feeding on beach. Gotta love Snowy's even when it's overcast and rainy. From there up to Saint Armand's Circle. Tropical Kingbird has returned for what must be fourth or fifth year to breed in parking area. Rare bird for Florida this time of year

Just returned from an amazing trip to Kalispel, Montana and Glacier National Park. This was a bucket list trip for me thanks to the help of my son. He allowed me to tag along with him for a week long convention he attended in Kalispel. Glacier Park blew me away. Once you get above the tree line you enter a world of rocky peaks and deep valley's. The view's are as exciting as the numbers of birds you see and hear. The Going to the Sun road is not for the faint of heart. The two lane road whit is sufficient for car's to pass does have shear drops on one side of the road. Many pull-offs are available to allow you to stop and take in the views. You defiantly want get into the park before sunrise in order to beat the crowds and get a parking spot at Logan Pass in order to view the sunrise. Many opportunities to bird are available to bird around Kalispel and Whitefish too. Searching the many pothole marshes in area will yield waterfowl and migratory shorebirds. I was just a bit early for migrants and missed so waterfowl. If i get the chance to go back I would go in late June. Whitefish Mountain Resort has the Danny On trail will gains 2000 ft to top of mountain. You go through various types of bird habitat along the way. I must admit I was only able to complete half of the 4 mile trail. Tough climb for a flat lander. I did go back and take the lift to the top for some spectacular views of the area.

On the birding side I was able to locate 5 new life birds which was a bonus. But to simply hear and see the numbers of birds in the area made the trip one to remember. And getting to spend some time with my son was a bonus. Plus he got off a day early and we went hiking in Glacier.

Been awhile since my last post. Been rather slow this fall along with dealing with Hurricane Irma. We lucked out big time with storm as it moved east of us. Evacuated expecting to loose my home but fortunately no damage. Can't say the same for Keys. Will be months before they get things somewhat back to normal.
Big news was an American Golden Plover that showed up on Wed evening this week at Ft DeSoto Park. Bird is still being seen today. Was lucky enough to go see it Thursday after work.
