Epson r800 problem

i've been using an r800 for a good while with results i've been very happy with but today a strong magenta colour cast has appeared on the prints. I'm pretty certain nothing in the settings has changed since the last time I used the printer and a nozzle check is OK.

I've triple checked everything and I'm sure its not a colour management or colour space conflict so any ideas?

Can't help I am afraid Paul but I have had exactly the same problem with my R800. I have tried every thing including using the colour controls instead of profiles (reducing magenta to -12 etc etc ). I even get a magenta cast on greyscale images. Very frustrating seeing I got superb prints from it for almost three years.
Good luck and let me know if you find a solution

I have found that this happens when the ink cartridges get low on ink. There doesn't seem to be too much you can do about it except replace the cartridges that are low.

Concerning greyscale images that print with a color cast, if you print them using only black ink, that shouldn't happen, unless you are using incompatible paper.

Certainly not low ink levels in my case as I have tried a complete new set with no difference.

The R800 uses 8 different cartridges but you have not really got the choice of printing with the Black ink only (btw it has two blacks, Photo and Matt). All you can do is choose 'greyscale'.

There is no radio button or checkbox anywhere in the print driver's dialog boxes that says "black ink only" or words like that?

Well I'm making progress - backwards!!

tried installing the latest driver and now it won't print at all. Nozzle checks print out fine but photos and documents won't print. System restore hasn't worked. It goes back to the old driver but with the same problem. The dustbins just about in throwing range and I'm getting tempted!

Might be of help to you but spotted this on the internet. Must admit black and white photographs will never print pure if you are using a a four colour process or more.

Rich Black is made up of other inks unless you print using just 100% Black and that is only likely on an Mono Laserwriter.
