ID Please South Australia

Hi,
We are just average birdwatchers - like to identify birds we see with our bird book, but we saw one about a week ago which has us stumped. It was seen at a location called The Bluff, near Victor Harbour South Australia. It was acting like a honey eater or wattlebird. It was approx 24cm. Similar to a Singing Honeyeater but the colours are all wrong. Is it possible to get an albino bird? Hopefully I can attach the photo OK.
Would appreciate if anyone can identify it for us. Thanks

Hello matmob and welcome to the forum.

This is definately a lecustic (possibly a lutino) native bird. My initial response was Eastern Yellow Robin but it is too slender to be one. Thus it must be one of the slimmer HEs. If it was in my neck of the woods I would go with Yellow-faced HE, but I have no experience with Singing HE so if that's the local common species it could be it.

A good and rare photograph!

Hi Matmob,

It could also be a Yellow-plumed Honeyeater. The yellow on its neck, and the side of its wings to its tail make me think this. But not 100%, its a tricky one!

Good luck,

Jordan

Thanks for the replies so far, here is another photo which shows the very faint olive markings in places i.e. thru' its eye & on its back & top of tail. Overall the bird is white & yellow. Two magpies were harassing it while it appeared to be looking for insects in a dead bush.

Hi matmob,

On the second shot I can see what appears to be a gular stripe/ patch (the line just underneath the eye) isn't that diagnostic of Singing HE? Unless it's a young bird and that's the gape...

Edit: http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/find...lay.cfm?id=289

Hmmm...

I reckon it's a leucistic Singing as you suggest.
