bill's best mate

Well it's a small world

had a newish supply teacher in today.....
sat chatting and he mentioned he asked me if I'd seen a Sibe Rubythroat ' yeah loads' i answered thinking he was a NOB....conversation developed and it turned out he found the one in 1975 on Fair Isle and the the Pallas' Reed Bunting. 'What Bill Oddie's PRB?' I asked. Turned out it was Bill's best mate Andy Lowe as mentioned in Bill's early books.

A nice bird filled conversation followed all morning including a story about Bill burning down a hut on Out Skerries!..........looking forward to more stories tomorrow

a nice man, a very nice man!

btw NOB is birding slang for Non Birder

Hi Tim
Are you going to tell the story of how Bill managed to burn down the hut?
I'd like to know.

That's probably something for PMs rather than public discussion ........though it would be a good story to hear ay!?

Alien encounters

Few weeks ago I was listening for night birds on a quiet country road, past midnight, when an accidental tourist stopped to ask what am I doing there with binoculars. He turned out to be the retired manager of Finnish Ringing Centre, on his way to fand some Strix uralensis nestlings.

-The current manager of that Centre was my fellow student in university.
