New nesting behaviour in silver gulls

Silver gulls are everywhere in coastal Australia ad have only ever been known to nest in dunes. Over the last two years new behaviour has been observed in one suburb in the south of Melbourne, a bayside town called Frankston. In this single place, gulls have begun nesting on the roofs of buildings; whereas in suburbs to the north and south they remain only in the dunes. Not sure if the population is no longer nesting in the dunes or some remain while others have discovered havens from predators on the rooftops. There has been development in the area in recent years, it is a populated area and is frequented by people during the summer months; but then so are all the other suburbs around.

I tried to do some work on this myself when I was shopping for a supervisor for my post-grad research but couldn't find anyone interested enough to support it.
