Firefox text colour

I've recently started using Firefox rather than IE (on XP), and apart from hang-ups at times it seems OK, except for a problem I'm getting with text in certain applications.

I have my text colour set to black, but on some websites and blogs I'm getting white text on a white background when making replies. Running the mouse over it to highlight it in blue in the hope of reading the white doesn't make any difference. I've been copying and pasting to a word document to see what is written, but that's hardly satisfactory.

I tried looking in Firefox to see if I could change what I assume is a secondary text colour, but I can't see where to do it.

Any ideas?

When I see pages like that it's usually a Style or encoding problem. Can you give us some examples of the sites and blogs, please?

Andy.

Hi BW

That seems very strange.

To select the colours:

Tools > Content

Then select Colours

I have Text - Black

Background - White

No tick in "Use system colours"

Allow pages to choose.... is ticked

Every forum I go to is black text on white background.

Could you give a link to a forum that is being troublesome?

This translation site is an example. I type in a phrase for translation in black text and the result comes up in white on white - invisible.

Several blog sites I've tried to leave replies to give me an allied problem. In this case as I'm typing a reply it comes out in invisible white on white and what I'm typing can't be seen by me. Here's one.

I tried setting it to that already Delia, but I've just tried again to be on the safe side - same result.

The language one works fine for me, BW, as does typing a comment in the blog.

I'll leave you in Andy's safe hands!

Hmm, I just tried both those sites with 3 different browsers based on Firefox and found no problems, I'll take a look on the FX support sites, see what comes up.

Can you test those sites again using FX's Safe Mode please? Close FX, then click Start > Programs > Mozilla Firefox > Firefox Safe Mode).

Hmm, if it's not working in the Safe Mode either, I'd suggest that you need to fully uninstall FX, including the Profiles then reboot before reinstalling, I'll find a link for that little task :).

EDIT:
Quote:
Important: It is rarely necessary to remove Firefox to repair it. Usually it is sufficient to create a new profile, and it is not necessary to remove the old profile. In some cases it is also necessary to uninstall Firefox and install it in a new folder. Note that it is usually safer to rename files and folders than to delete them.
So you could try creating a new Profile first. Here's the page for the uninstall methods.

Thanks for your help Andrew.

I removed and re-downloaded Firefox before I saw your edit. After a battle of wills with the computer (I think IE was having a HAL3000 moment) I re-downloaded Firefox, only to find that the same problem occurred.

I'll try creating a new profile later to see if that works.
