Hello from Northern California

I am a total novice at birding...a friend got me started about a month ago. I've always enjoyed watching and photographing birds and well here I am. I'm a middle aged woman that loves hiking and kayaking and generally out of doors. My house is near wetlands and the SF Bay so it is a wonderful place for quick walks and spotting birds. Now I need to learn what those birds are.

I will mostly read and learn. I'll apologize in advance when I ask really stupid questions.

Hi Sally, You are in a superb location for birding, some excellent places to visit in Marin, especially West Marin, Bolinas Lagoon, Audobon Canyon Ranch, Mt. Tam. the PRBO field station at Palomarin is worth a visit to see banding in operation (but I would say that though as I lived and worked there) and the Point Reyes area in general is just excellent. Wish I was there.
