Brewer's or Clay-colored Sparrow? - So. Cal.
I saw this bird yesterday at the Sepulveda Basin near LA and initially assumed Brewer's sparrow as there have been lots of reports of them moving through the region and as I understand they are more common here. However, I have been looking at a lot of photos of clay-colored sparrows and the bird I photographed seems quite similar. I don't have much experience with either species as neither is all that common here, and so I was wondering specifically what characteristics make this a Brewer's rather than a clay-colored sparrow or vice versa. Any thoughts?

Looks good for Clay-colored to me (unstreaked gray nape, strong face pattern/lateral throat stripe).
