Hi Evabell,Cardinals are in finch family here in the U.S..Generally considered
to be year-round resident where found.However,locations were snow or ice
covers available food sources,they will move around locally for nutritional sustenance.
More importantly perhaps,in cold climates open water becomes critical.
If the weather has chilled and water has froze,look for your neighborhood red birds around a water source.
