Porro bins are a bit like war, they are made by young people for the need of old people.

My suggestion would be the opticron verano bga hd. They are an excellent bin. Or if you can add to the budget a pair of minox hg mig can be had for 589. A brilliant bin for that price.

Depends what you're after. For the money there's the Nikon EII, Kowa BD, Opticron Verano HD, Canon IS, and compact alphas, all worth considering along with the Hawkes etc.

You should orientate to Opticron or Vortex if there's Vortex dealers in GB.
Swift porros seems to be extraordinary optics as well.
Check this site and make your own opinion.

think i'll look for a local dealer with a good selection including the opticron verano hd the Hawkes etc & try and judge which would suit me the best, the Hawkes do look like they come with a decent amount of gear( case, covers, straps etc ) and also 10yr warranty

With that budget I would be looking at the Hawke Sapphire's. Hearing good things about them. I have the Frontier ED's and if they are a step up then it's going to be something special. I have yet to find any Opticron or Vortex that comes close to the Frontier's but that's just my opinion.

No doubt for me, the Zeiss 8x30 conquests are hard to beat for that price range.

Seriously consider looking at second hand - there are often some big savings to be had onthe top end Leica, Swaro, Zeiss etc.
