Hi

Having said "above 4șC" I should add a few comments.
Obviously, the warmer, the better and cloudy nights are better than nights with clear skies as this helps to keep the temperature up. Wind is also an issue, so calm nights are better (although I've had some success with migrants in a torrential thunderstorm - the trap being in my bathroom, not the garden where the bulb would have blown in seconds).

I had my first moth of the year last night, a Chestnut. I have never seen a moth this early before, but it has been a very mild winter here, except for about 3 week in the second half of January and first half of February when it was between -5 and -12 degrees every day.

Amazing nights trapping (given it was Feb) on Tuesday at RSPB Coombes Valley in Staffordshire.

18 chesnut
5 pale brindled beauty (both male forms)
1 march moth
1 dotted border
1 satellite
1 spring usher

First moth I've seen this year was this Beautiful Plume Amblyptilia acanthadactyla on 1st March which had obviously just ceased hibernating. Just got a moth trap though so hopefully things will improve soon!
